Difference in Tone

The metrical compositions that I will be comparing and contrasting argon Nazim Hikmets Since I Was thrown Inside, and Arthur Nortjes Letter from Pretoria ecumenical prison. Both of these poesys consist of narrators who are serving time for crimes committed. Letter from Pretoria General Prison, describes an inmates typical day and gives insight into what prison house is like. Since I was Thrown Inside, describes how life seems to passing an inmate by and how he or any inmate is merely empty in the eyes of time and life. These poems are by all odds interchangeable in ground of the circumstances in which the narrators are in but are completely different in terms of tone and overall content.

Letter from Pretoria General Prison does not have a rhyme scheme and yet though it is a poem, it has more of a descriptive disembodied spirit to it. The poem seems to follow a hexameter format that is it has 6 stresses per parenthood of poetry. As previously stated the poetic form that this poem seems to portray is descriptive. Throughout the poem I felt as if Arthur Nortje was trying to take me through a day in the life of an inmate and how it seems to be more enjoyable and attractive which is contrary to the very idea of prison.

Both of these quotations show how Nortje poem appeals to the senses of smell and sight. I think Nortje uses imagery in this route to bring the reader in to the poem, to feel the poem as if they were there so as to get a separate understanding of...If you want to get a full essay, secern it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
