Qantas The history of our great international airline is rich and vibrant. It goes approve to March, 1919. Australian Flying Corps officers Wilmot Hudson Fysh and Paul McGinness heard of a $20,000 prize for the first Australians to fly from England to Australia within 30 days. They had foregoing experience in flying a flight a Bristol Fighter. They went to a millionaire named Sir Samuel McGaughey to get funded. He promised to pay for them, but unfortunately, he died a few days later, leaving the two workforce stranded without any money. On 18 August 1919, the accomplices were direct to survey the air route from Longreach in Queensland to Katherine in the Federal Territory. They travelled in their Model T Ford money box the Katherine River. Throughout the journey, they kept on thinking about how an aircraft could table service transport passengers through remote settlements. After welcoming the winners of the race, Fysh and McGinness want financial support for an air service. A wealthy gentlemans gentleman named Fergus McMaster made friends with McGinness when his car broke down. McGinness helped McMaster fix the car and they two became friends. McGinness and Fysh outlined their plan for an air service to McMaster. Fergus soon started issue this idea to other investors to help them.
With a new friend called Arthur Baird (an aircraft mechanic) and their money, they ordered an AVRO and called it QANTAS. Qantas was established properly on 16 November 1920. QANTAS stands for Queensland and Federal Territory Aerial Services. Fergus McMaster became the chairman of Qantas. McGinness and Braid gave joy rides heretofore though the maintenance of the aircrafts was rough. Winton was the official birthplace of Qantas. It then travel to Longreach.
