Dear well-behaved War Essay Contest Advisor, The Gilder Lehrman add of American History and the Civil War Round delay of spic-and-span York are pleased to announce our annual Civil War Essay Contest for high trail (grades 9-12) and mediate school (grades 6-8) students. The contest, which recognizes excellence in research and writing, is designed to enhance students knowledge of the Civil War era through subprogram of primary sources. Essays will be judged on originality and clarity of thesis, gauge of writing and use of primary sources, among other criteria. Participation is special to Gilder Lehrman Affiliate Schools. Each Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School may stage up to five essays (junior/senior high schools may contract up to five essays per division). If youre a student or teacher at a school that is not only a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School and youre interested in participating in the contest, please talk to your principal nigh applying to become a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School. Essays are due to the Gilder Lehrman instal by Friday, March 11, 2011. As only five essays per school per division will be accepted, you will need to come your own internal deadlines to select the five best essays from your school.

Awards will be given at a June 8, 2011 dinner for the prize winners, their families and faculty advisors in New York City.
