Coherentism is the idea that every mental picture is exclusivelyified only upon its dealing to other tactile sensations. Meaning we are justified in believe something if it coheres with, or fits well with, our overall system of beliefs. Thus, if a belief doesnt fit with any of our other beliefs it is not justified.
The eerie Case of Magic Feldman is: Magic Johnson (MJ) is a professional basketball game player and when he is playing basketball he has a fully coherent system of beliefs. Magic Feldman (MF) is a doctrine professor who has exactly the beliefs MJ has. While MF is principle a class he has the beliefs that he is playing basketball. Sense MJ belief system is coherent, MF belief system must as well as be coherent, because they are exactly the same. This case goes against Coherentism by stating that MFs beliefs of playing basketball are justified correspond to Coherentism, when in fact those beliefs are not justified. The Strange Case of Magic Feldman argues MF beliefs are detached from reality, not just false, and that they need to account the nature of MF experiences of being a philosophy professor.
Although this objection argues against Coherentism, it is not a good objection.
i reason is because MF experiences wont matter if he has the same belief system as MJ because he leave be thinking MJ experiences are his. MF cannot be teaching a class if he believes he is playing basketball because he would be thinking that he is on a court with his teammates, not in a classroom with students. MJ does not believe that he is teaching a class and if MF has those same beliefs he wont believe it either. MF will also believe that he is MJ, sense MJ believes he is MJ, so if you were to ask him if he was MF he would say no, I am MJ.
