Abstract

The expectations of business students have been changing. twenty years ago they were willing to attend class, being comparatively passive listening to lectures, that is being taught. When I starrted teaching at the University of Iceland in 1978 I introduced home work escercises and projects in baseball club to activate the students, unless lectures still piddle awayed an important role. During the mid-eighties professors performance became more important. Lectures were accepted and they should be entertaining and guest lecturers and videos where used in night club to get to more attention from the students. During those years the students were changing and in the mid nineties it had become clear to me that the students were more interest to learn than being taught. In surveys I did this became clear and innovations salty the students in their learning process were welcomed by the students. EXCEL became wide available and in quantitavive courses one could move away from algebra and tophus to developing models in EXCEL that could be used as tools for the decision makers.



This change has had a major effect in business schools as students have to be engaged in run to develop their modelling capacity. Furhter innovations were needed and I introduced games that the students could play on computers. Some I have been using for umteen years such as the Littlefield Technologies game that was developed at Stanford University. Other games are newer such as the Supply concatenation game from Responsive.net. During the last 6-7 years I have trim greatly the time I use for lecturing and indtroduced cases. closely of the cases I use come from Harvard Business School but some from the Ivey School of Business and Stanford. Generally the students welcome these changes and get involved in their learning rather than being taught by the professor.
