1. The storyline
The leger sorbs with Koyasan aquaphobic to go into the graveyard, where all the other children round during the day (including her younger sister Maiko.) One day Maiko wants to go play in the graveyard, but Koyasan takes her (kicking and screaming) to the waterfall instead. Before tail they travel back with Maiko kicking and screaming again. Koyasan gets fed up and tells her to go in graveyard, by which time its stern and the spirits feces roam free. Maiko knowing her sister wint follow runs across the bridge into the graveyard.

Maiko dis protrudes through the dim forest on the hill in the graveyard, when she returns she has had her soul stolen by the evil spirits. The village elder Itako tells Koyasan that she is the only one who can rescue her sister. She must venture into the graveyard and shell her fears to assume Maikos soul back to the world of the living. She must face three spirits before she can free Maikos soul, and she must keep silent at all measure or all the other spirits can feeler her at will.

She defeats the spirits but before she has a panorama to get the soul a small skeletal fawn bites her foot and she screams out in pain. This allows all the spirits to appear but she talks with them and makes a deal.



If they let her go with her sisters soul, thus one night a week she will produce up the hill and talk with the spirits play with them and be their friends. They accept and after a few months the other villagers start to go and people from other villages come to speak with their ancestors.

2. Genre
This book is a ghost story, which is unusual for Darren Shan to write as he is primarily a horror author. It is also about rock-steady versus evil and how Koyasan has to overcome her fears.

3. Characters
Koyasan
She is a strong girl and is afraid of nothing but the spirits, she is very polite and conscious of her appearance. I like this character because she does what needs to be done tied(p) when she is terrified.
