The main character is named India Opal Buloni, but most people augur her Opal. She is ten years old. Opals father is a priest. Opals mother leave her and her father when she was just three years old. Opal never unsounded why her mother left and was always very vicious about it. In the beginning of the book, Opal had recently moved to a trailer park in Naomi, Florida. Opal did not have any friends. Her father, the Priest, had a small congregation and was usually busy. Opal didnt talk to him often. Opals outmatch friend is a loyal dog-named Winn Dixie. Opal tells him everything that she wishes she could tell to her mother.

There are many conflicts in this story, but the most Copernican one is when Opal finds Winn Dixie and has an argument with her father as to whether or not she could harbour him.



Her father agreed to let Opal keep Winn Dixie on the condition that the dog stays out-of-door of their trailer and that Opal has to pay for his food.

Another conflict is when Opal asks the pet-store owner if she could take a leak for him. At first the pet storeowner didnt want to employ her. He thought she wouldnt to a good job.
